Carnival bloggers help renew New Orleans

Posted by Anita Dunham-Potter On February - 6 - 2009

Today Carnival Cruise Lines popular senior cruise director, John Heald and 100 of his faithful bloggers are helping to beautify New Orleans. The group is volunteering with the city’s Beacon of Hope Resource Center to clear debris and plant trees, along with helping to spruce up a neighborhood in New Orleans that sustained significant damage from Hurricane Katrina. “We look forward to working with the Beacon of Hope Resource Center in helping to beautify this magnificent city,” Heald said.

After the cleanup the group will board the newly refurbished Carnival Fantasy tomorrow for Heald’s 2009 Bloggers’ Cruise. ExpertCruiser will be blogging onboard the Fantasy throughout the 5-day voyage. Stay tuned…

    Anita:

We had a great time at the Volunteer Event.

It amazed me that 100 people would spend their vacation time, in a city that many had never even been to before, to try to lend a hand in some small way.

I was also amazed what 100 people can do in a short period of time. That pond looked wonderful when we left; as did that long white wall that had all the brush and debris cleared from it and all the benches.

With DJ’s Autism, I had to get him away from the “crowds”. We found 4 wrought iron benchs to scrape and paint that were off the beaten path. And then he helped David over at the pond for awhile pulling limbs to the trash heap. So DJ got to work with both of us.
