Carnival Corp. increases fuel surcharge

Posted by Anita Dunham-Potter On April - 8 - 2008

Sinking dollarEarlier this evening Carnival Corporation sent a memo out to all travel agents stating that the company was increasing the fuel surcharge fee per passenger on all six of its brands: Carnival Cruise Lines, Princess Cruises, Holland America Line, Cunard, Costa, and Seabourn.

The fuel supplement will jump from $5 to $7 (USD) per person per day. Additionally, these brands will implement a new fuel supplement on third and fourth passengers of $2 per person per day. The new fuel supplements will apply to all new bookings effective April 21, 2008. The fuel supplements will not exceed $98 per person per voyage for the first and second passengers, and $28 per person per voyage for the third and fourth passengers in a stateroom. The combined changes would add as much as $140 more per cabin to the cost of a 14-day cruise.

The added fuel surcharge comes one week after agreeing with the Florida Attorney General’s office to refund $40 million in fuel surcharges to retroactively charged passengers. “We regret having to take this action, but fuel price increases have continued, and we now find it necessary to implement a modest increase in the supplement,” the company wrote in the statement.
