What keeps some cruise line executives up at night? Would you believe the media? Specifically the consumer media, in other words people like me.
During the annual Seatrade convention’s “State of the Industry” panel MSC Cruises USA president and CEO, Rick Sasso says he’s “frustrated” by the lack of good consumer media coverage. He says that the cruise industry is the “poster child” for being responsible and that the industry’s good side doesn’t get reported enough. Adam Goldstein, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean International, says we are in an environment “possessed by doom and gloom” and the media is not helping.
I guess these two did not read my column this week. After the event, my colleague from USA TODAY, Gene Sloan, and I commiserated. “They always blame the media,” he said. To which I replied, “It’s the media, stupid.”
Thank you for your help!
