Posted by Anita Dunham-Potter On July - 17 - 2007

Art lovers on board a ship travelling with Celebrity Cruises now don’t have to wait till they go ashore to enjoy the best in contemporary art from around the world.

The company reports that seven of its vessels are now offering cruise holiday passengers the opportunity to pick up a handheld audio device and enjoy a self-guided tour of some renowned 20th century pieces.

By the end of October this year, Celebrity Cruises will have completed the installation of the programme on its Constellation, Galaxy, Infinity, Mercury, Millennium and Summit liners.

Pieces on board these vessels include works in a variety of media from Jasper Johns, Pablo Picasso, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Raschenberg and Andy Warhol, with the value of the collection on each liner exceeding $1.5 million. Guests can take a self-guided art tour that rivals a small art museum.

Andy Warhol would approve.
