QE2 is forty and fabulous

Queen Elizabeth 2A new book celebrating 40 years of Cunard Line’s Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2) is being launched today in London. In “QE2: Forty Years Famous,” writer Carol Thatcher covers the history of the famous liner, starting with the QE2’s revolutionary design and the controversy surrounding the liner’s construction and moving on to vessel’s storied history from famous patrons to troubled voyages including engine failure, storms, collisions and wartime service.

The book also features the host of celebrities from the ’60s to the present day who have sailed on QE2. After more than 5 million nautical miles and 40 years, the liner is approaching the end of her sea-going service in 2009. After which the vessel will become a floating hotel and museum to draw tourists to one of Dubai’s man-made islands.
