TSA gone wild! Goes after travel bloggers

Posted by Anita Dunham-Potter On December - 30 - 2009

Freedom of speech. not!

Seems the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) can’t get their focus straight. Who are the terrorists to them? Would you believe travel bloggers?

Both the DHS and TSA have chosen the low road and have gone after travel journalists Christopher Elliott and Steven Frischling. Elliott a highly-regarded columnist for msnbc.com, National Geographic Traveler, and nationally syndicated “Travel Troubleshooter” column was subpoenaed yesterday by the TSA for publishing the official security directive in response to the attempted Christmas Day bombing. Frischling a self-employed photographer who writes the Flying With Fish and KLM blogs was also subpoenaed for publishing the same document and had his computer confiscated.

According to a report on Tnooz, both journalists face fines and a year in jail if they don’t comply with the subpoena by Thursday, December 31. This is truly a case of the elephants stepping on the ants.

  1. DocF says:

The whole Homeland Security Department must be dissolved as it is an absolute abomination and serves solely as a home for political hacks. TSA in particular is an organization that has no clue what must be done to provide real security.

Attempting to quiet travel bloggers is just another attempt to conceal their incompetence. They have no clue what to do or what they should be try to expose terrorists. Bloggers irritate these fools as they know that the emperor has no clothes, whereas the TSA has these cool uniforms and a level of arrogance unequaled by any other government agency.

Their system is to provide a facade by increasing the inconvenience factor for travelers. The only way to really be secure is to stop being politically correct. All ethnic types that are tied to terrorism must have their bags hand inspected and be given a full strip search including body cavity probe. All people with passports from terror related countries must receive the same treatment. Let the PC crowd scream; we need to have a real system of security and that is the only way to do it.
