ExpertCruiser sails Star Clippers’ Royal Clipper

Posted by Anita Dunham-Potter On December - 4 - 2007

Royal ClipperCurrently I am aboard the amazing Royal Clipper and talk about getting in touch with your inner Captain Jack Sparrow. It doesn’t get any better than this for connoisseurs of sail cruising. The 439-foot-long Royal Clipper offers the ultimate sea-going experience, balancing the grandeur, adventure and tradition of sailing with the superb service, amenities and accommodations of the finest modern yachts.

The ship, modeled after a legendary tall ship from the 1900s, boasts 42 sails and five masts. Daring passengers can climb the masts (with safety harness provided, thank goodness!) to one of the passenger “crow’s-nests,” thoughtfully furnished with comfortable settees. From the stern of the ship, a marina platform lowers to sea level, giving passengers instant access to water sports activities. There are a lot of nifty nooks and crannies on the Royal Clipper, from the one-of-a-kind Captain Nemo Lounge, the site of the ship’s spa and health club, or the hidden balconies on either side of the bow. A three-deck atrium funnels sunlight into the elegant dining room, where guests dine on deliciously prepared cuisine and a no-tie dress code. Staterooms — of which all but six are outside cabins — include double or twin beds that can be converted to queen-size beds, as well as marble-lined bathrooms, television with in-house video, direct dial telephone, hair dryer and comfortable furnishings.

Stay tuned for more Clipper clips…
