Hurtigruten’s Fram returned to service late last week following repairs in Ushuaia after the ship briefly lost power in Antarctica on December 28 and scraped against a glacier.
Hurtigruten says the Fram resumed its Antarctica program on January 10 after canceling its January 2 departure to allow time for repairs and testing.
The company said a malfunction in the electrical system that led to the power outage was repaired. Also, a lifeboat damaged by the impact with the glacier was removed and will be replaced.
Hurtigruten said interim lifeboat capacity has been secured in line with regulations.
