A 9-year-old boy and his father were both injured while ice skating aboard the mega-ship. In a truly freak accident as the father fell one of his skates ran over the boy’s finger and severed it. The severed portion of the finger was recovered, kept on ice and airlifted with the boy to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.

According to Royal Caribbean, the boy underwent surgery to reattach the finger, unfortunately, it proved unsuccesful and the boy was discharged from the hospital the following day with his father. The boy and his father, whose names were not released by Royal Caribbean, are currently on their way home to South Africa.
