Storms force cruises to shift course

Posted by Anita Dunham-Potter On September - 3 - 2008

The tropics seem to be going crazy what with the remnants of Gustav, the new threat from Hanna, a strengthening Ike and newcomer Josephine. Suffice it to say, all this is driving cruise ships off course with massive itinerary changes.

Carnival Cruise Lines had to extend a 5-day voyage on the Carnival Ecstasy by two days because of Hurricane Gustav. The ship was scheduled to dock in Galveston Monday but remained at sea away from the storm. The ship docked this morning.

Norwegian Cruise Line switched Norwegian Sky’s four-day Bahamas sailing on Monday to a Western Caribbean route with stops at Cozumel and Key West. Norwegian also switched course for the New York-based Norwegian Spirit instead of heading to the Bahamas it’s going to Bermuda.

Meanwhile Royal Caribbean International’s Mariner of the Seas, sailing from Port Canaveral, will drop skipped Coco Cay in the Bahamas.

Stay tuned for more changes…
