Chilean navy vessels in the area lost sight of the stricken vessel some 20 hours after the pre-dawn accident, and wreckage indicated it had gone under completely. Earlier today a major rescue operation involving the Canadian expedition cruise ship took place in the Antarctic Ocean. All 100 passengers and 54 crew abandoned ship and took to eight semi-rigid lifeboats and four life rafts and were rescued by Hurtigruten ship MS Nordnorge. No injuries were reported. Passengers and crew are awaiting air transport flights home from King George Island.
